London,UK –  9th Sep 2010 – Psion Teklogix (“Psion”) has announced that Raben Group, a leading European logistics operator, has selected Psion’s next-generation rugged PDA as its in-truck system of choice for the next 5 years. Raben Group will use Psion PDAs in 2,000 trucks, where they will help track and trace the vehicles and their cargo, and run essential logistics applications such as electronic proof-of-delivery. The contract is worth more than €1.4 million, and includes five years of all-inclusive service under Psion’s i-Serv global service plan.

Raben Group has used Psion devices in local projects in the past, but this is the first time it has agreed a company-wide deployment of Psion devices. Raben Group, working with BCS Polska, a member of IBCS Group, which is the biggest integrator of mobile solutions for enterprises in Central Eastern Europe markets,  chose Psion’s next-generation rugged PDA after a comprehensive review of all mobile terminals available on the market.

“There’s a direct link between the quality and reliability of our in-truck terminals, and the quality and reliability of our logistics service,” said Sławek Pawlak,  CIO of Raben Group. “If our terminals keep working, our drivers can keep working.” Pawlak expects that Psion’s next-generation PDA is designed for the real world durability, which minimises downtime, and it gives the technology needed to support logistics operations over the next five years. These factors made Psion the obvious choice for the Raben Group fleet, because Psion provides the lowest total cost of ownership and the best return on investment.

John Conoley, CEO, Psion, commented, “By combining emerging mobile technoligies with its modular architechture Psion is able to integrate the latest features into its new products while improving the speed and reducing the cost of development.”

Following the deal, Psion and Raben Group expect to sign a wider corporate purchasing agreement. This will enable Raben Group to expand its use of Psion handheld, vehicle-mounted and voice-based mobile systems across its operations, which include a network of depots across Europe, and specialist divisions for sea, air and temperature-controlled freight.
