Buenos Aires, Argentina – Psion Teklogix is playing a key role in Uruguay’s national animal traceability program. The addition of the WORKABOUT PRO to the i-campo solution, developed by Argentinean company Cybercampo, promises great benefits for the “agri-business” industry in Uruguay.

The i-campo kit, which establishes traceability of cattle at each stage of processing from packaging to delivery, is composed of composed of Psion Teklogix’ WORKABOUT PRO, an RFID reader AIR 200 from German company Agrident, and software i-campo developed by Cybercampo.

The i-campo kit meets rigorous beef export requirement set by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries in Uruguay, and was granted official certification early this year. The main purpose behind animal traceability is to improve food safety measures required for international exporting.

The WORKABOUT PRO was chosen because of its ruggedness and customization capabilities. According to Pablo Almeida, of Uruguay’s Rural Association, the ministry that approved i-campo with official certification, the ability to add an RFID reader to the handheld terminal being used by field workers, was a bonus. “The WORKABOUT PRO brings us everything we need in one single device; its ergonomic design and its resistance to field conditions makes it easier to work with,” he says.
