Psion Teklogix Upgrades Mobile Control Center (MCC) For Remote Troubleshooting Of Its Rugged Mobile Devices

Remote software improves business efficiency by managing all functions in a central location

16 June 2009

CINCINNATI, OH, U.S.A. – Psion Teklogix Inc. (LSE: PON.L), a global provider of mobile computing solutions, today announced an upgrade to its world-class device management software, Mobile Control Center (MCC), which enables customers to manage their Psion Teklogix and non-Psion devices remotely, more efficiently and economically.  The new MCC version 6.03 will be available for purchase in July.

MCC software features a user-friendly interface, powerful functionality and reliable scalability that exceeds competitive offerings. The software empowers customers to manage their mobile devices by controlling software updates and providing capability to remotely monitor, troubleshoot and fix these devices without disrupting mobile workflow. This, in turn, helps reduce operation and support costs, improve operational efficiency and ROI.

Some of the features available on the new MCC version 6.03 include location services, allowing GPS based devices to be located and tracked in real-time; and data collection, allowing historical data to be collected and analyzed. Companies can now assemble data on battery status, GPS location, WiFi signal strength or any other type of data that needs to be gathered for later reporting.

United States Cold Storage (USCS), one of the leading public refrigerated warehousing (PRW) companies in the USA, is currently rolling out MCC software on 1,040 mobile device units used in over 30 of its sites, to remotely monitor, manage and support these devices in real-time.

“Without qualified tech support staff in every warehouse, our MCC software is a huge time and cost-saver for United States Cold Storage. Now whenever a problem arises, a supervisor in a central location can remotely control the situation, resolving the issue with a simple click of a button. Likewise, warehouse staff no longer needs to leave their location for troubleshooting or upgrades, eliminating costly training for all staff members,” said Ron Caines, president of world-wide sales at Psion Teklogix.

Mobile Control Center is a client-server mobile device management solution that allows customers to perform rapid, hands-off updates of wireless devices located anywhere in the enterprise. Key MCC benefits include:

  • Monitoring and Remote Troubleshooting: Allows customers to actively monitor their mobile devices, detect when these devices are in trouble (i.e. memory, battery life) and fix them on the fly, reducing operational costs and downtime. Remote troubleshooting also saves travel and shipping costs that would otherwise be required to fix and return the device to the field.

  • Software Distribution: Enables customers to install and update software on mobile devices connected over WLAN or WWAN environments. This capability allows customers to reduce shipping costs, initial deployment costs and support/maintenance costs.

  • Remote Control: Allows support staff and system administrators to remotely control mobile devices and modify the registry or files while they are being used in the field, without interfering with functionality. Remote Control significantly reduces support and training costs.

  • Configuration: Provides administrators with a tool to centrally modify settings for one or more mobile devices, remotely, without shipping the devices back to the service depot or IT shop to update. The remote lock-down feature allows administrators to selectively choose which applications can be accessed from each device.

“For companies like us who have numerous sites with thousands of units, the ability to control each device regardless of location, not only saves time and money, but makes us more efficient as a company,” said Terry Groff IT/RF Tech Specialist at United States Cold Storage. “Psion Teklogix’ MCC software provides our employees with user-friendly, powerful and reliable software that stands heads and shoulders above competitive offerings.”

User-friendly MCC software provides powerful and simple troubleshooting. By remotely monitoring these devices, workers have had a reliable and simple workflow which has greatly improved efficiency and ROI all around.
